US President recently decided to invoke a Cold War-era defense law to encourage domestic spherical Al2O3 powder.

What is Aluminum Oxide Al2O3?
Aluminum oxide is a kind of inorganic with the chemical formula Al2O3. It is a high hardness compound.
It is a white solid insoluble in water, odorless, tasteless, and extremely hard. The melting point is 2054 and the boiling point is 2980. Aluminum oxide is a typical amphoteric oxide, soluble in inorganic acid and alkaline solutions, almost insoluble in water and non-polar organic solvents.
 
What is Aluminum Oxide Al2O3 used for?
Fillers 
Aluminum oxide, which is chemically inert and white, is the preferred filler for plastics.  Aluminum oxide is a common ingredient in sunscreen and is sometimes found in cosmetics such as blush, lipstick and nail polish. 
 
Glass 
Many glass formulations contain aluminum oxide as an ingredient. Aluminosilicate glass is a common type of glass that usually contains 5 to 10 percent aluminum oxide. 
 
Catalytic
Aluminum oxide catalyzes a variety of reactions useful in industry. In its largest application, aluminum oxide is used as a catalyst in the Krauss process to convert hydrogen sulfide exhaust gas into elemental sulfur in refineries. It can also be used to dehydrate alcohols into alkenes. 
Aluminum oxide can be used as catalyst carrier for many industrial catalysts, such as those used for hydrodesulfurization and some Ziegler-Natta polymerization reactions. 
 
Gas purification 
Aluminum oxide is widely used to remove water from the air stream.
 
Abrasive 
Aluminum oxide is used for its hardness and strength. Its natural form corundum has a Mohs hardness of 9 (slightly lower than diamond). It is widely used as an abrasive, including as a cheap substitute for industrial diamonds. Many types of sandpaper use aluminum oxide crystals.
In addition, its low insulation and low specific heat make it widely used in grinding operations, especially cutting tools. As a powdery abrasive mineral, Arroite is, along with silica, the main component of the "chalk" used in billiard balls at the tip of the cue. 
Aluminum oxide powder is used in some CD/DVD polishing and scratch repair kits. Its polished quality is also the reason it's used in toothpaste. It is also used in microdermabrasion, either in machine-processed procedures provided by dermatologists and beauticians, or as a manual skin abrasive according to the manufacturer's instructions. 
 
Paint
Aluminum oxide flakes are used in coatings to produce a reflective decorative effect, for example in the automotive or cosmetic industries. 
 
Composite fiber
Aluminum oxide has been used in a number of experimental and commercial fiber materials for high-performance applications.

Because of its spherical appearance, it can achieve multi-directional heat transfer, good dispersion in the system, and high thermal conductivity of thermal conductive products; 
 
Low wear and tear" 
Because of its ball-shaped appearance, the wear of mixer, molding machine and other equipment is reduced and the service life of equipment is prolonged.
