Modified nickel foam had a higher level of activity for oxygen reduction and OER reactions than the original nickel. The Ni(OH),2 layer was formed by better lattice matching. This results in increased activity. Ni3N/NiOH (catalyst) makes it more difficult for water to separate from nickel hydroxide layers, thus decreasing the overpotential. Additionally, metal nitrides have a higher adsorption rate to hydrogen than those of pure metals. This increases the metal nitrides' adsorption potential. As an electrocatalyst nickel nitride is an option for fuel cells, batteries and other energy-related equipment.
